A few days ago I came down with another cold. Having already given away all my cough drops in times of plenty, I trudged to the supermarket across the street to buy a new packet. I should have looked up the word for “lozenge” before leaving because once in the pharmacy I realized that my pantomime skills, though formidable, were not quite up to the task: I ended up asking the pharmacist to line up all his cold medicine on the glass countertop, and then, with the stoicism of a guinea pig, I sampled one from each box until I found what I was looking for. On the plus side, the cough drops I found are in the shape of little green hearts.

I am amazed the pharmacist let you do that. Hope you little green heart ones work well.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I used to have pi pa gao for colds and sore throats. It's this thick fruity syrup that's kind of tasty.
ReplyDeleteYeah, what a patient pharmacist! He must have pitied the little sick American.
ReplyDeletePS. Maybe you should increase your intake of green tea?
"with the stoicism of a guinea pig..."

Do you think your illness will be driven off by little green hearts ? I picture those Valentine candies that say "Be Mine" - do yours also have messages ?
