Summer Plans

Hello everyone.  I’m back!  And writing this post from my brand new little netbook.  If you notice any typos they are probably a result of my fingers adapting to the smaller keyboard.

Early Monday morning I will head out to the Philippines for a 10-week research internship.  My assignment is to quantitatively and qualitatively describe the credit market in rural and urban areas.  I’m arriving a little bit late to the party; this project has been collecting data for three years now and has already analyzed a lot of information, so the specific goal this summer is to flesh out more fully the cost structure of a typical informal moneylender’s businesses.  My research methodology consists mostly of interviewing moneylenders; pending extra cooperation, I will then engage in activity-tracking studies that range from relatively casual (daily journals kept by the lenders) to somewhat invasive (my constant presence).

It should be really interesting.  Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up the blogging pace I established in China.  Here’s to summer of thoughtful, educational, and entertaining cogitating!
