The Beach

Manila, according to local tourism materials, is famous for its sunsets.  A good place to watch is the boardwalk along Manila Bay, a crumbling walkway that stretches for several kilometers along a beach covered with garbage.

The place has a sort of funky charm.  Instead of benches, local planners installed several swinging love seats; vendors cruise up and down the strand selling steaming ears of corn.  Considering the potential of the boardwalk, it seems strange that the beach itself has become a combination landfill and sewage plant.  Maybe the locals get used to the smell.
